During the past few years, one important design element has been largely overlooked in our home. Can you guess what it is…area rugs!
During the four years that we have lived in our home, it has seen a vast array of changes. As we hone in on our style and learn what not only looks beautiful but functions well for our home and our family, the aesthetic of our home is constantly transforming. We’ve changed the paint colors of almost every room, we’ve upgraded some of our foundation pieces, like our sofa and dining table, we’ve improved the functionality of our kitchen, and updated our window treatments – just to name a few. Nick likes to joke that our house changes so often he’s never really sure if he’s coming home to the right house every evening! 🙂
But in all of that change, one thing we haven’t incorporated into the design of our home is area rugs.
Currently, our living room is the only space in our home that has an area rug. That is because it is where our little one spends a lot of her time, it’s serving its purpose of a soft place to play, but it’s old and lacks any kind of appeal.
But that’s all about to change. I have big plans to start reaping the many benefits of area rugs and incorporating them into the different rooms in our home, starting with our living room.
Rugs can be such a fun and easy way to add color, texture and pattern to a space. They instantly add a sense of comfort and warmth and really help a room to feel complete. If you’re wondering why I’ve been holding out for so long, it’s because the thought of choosing a new rug seems completely daunting. Although there are many budget-friendly options to be found, they are still a fairly expensive purchase, depending on the size needed. But budgets aside, I think the sheer number of options available is what really intimidates me when it comes to purchasing a new rug.

But I’ve let go of the pressure and I’ve recently started to embrace the idea of adding area rugs to our home. I’ve been having a lot of fun browsing, both online and in stores, to get a feel of the colors, styles and materials I am most drawn to.
And I can tell you, I’ve spent hours and hours and hours trying to choose the perfect rug for our living room, but I keep going back and forth on what I want for this space. I can’t decide between a beautiful vintage rug in a neutral or blue palette, or a simple natural jute rug. I think I am leaning towards a vintage rug, but I would love your opinion.
Here are a few of my favorite neutral vintage rugs.
